How to Use CUI Visitor and Personnel Badges
CUI Visitor and Personnel Badges are used to visually identify who is authorized to enter, work in, or be escorted through areas where Controlled Unclassified Information is handled, stored, processed, displayed, discussed, or created.
Use purple CUI Approved / CUI Authorized badges for individuals who are permitted to access CUI areas or handle CUI under your organization’s procedures. Use red CUI Restricted badges for visitors, contractors, vendors, employees, or other personnel who should not access CUI materials or enter CUI-controlled areas without proper authorization or escort.
These badges are especially useful at reception desks, controlled area entrances, manufacturing floors, engineering departments, labs, server rooms, IT closets, print/copy areas, inspection areas, shipping areas, and conference rooms where CUI may be present.
For best results, issue badges during visitor sign-in, employee onboarding, facility tours, assessments, maintenance visits, customer visits, and other situations where personnel access needs to be clearly identified. Badges should be worn visibly above the waist and returned or updated when the visit, shift, role, or authorization status changes.
CUI badges should be paired with visitor logs, escort procedures, restricted area signs, CUI authorized-only floor tape, CUI media labels, SF 901 cover sheets, and employee training. Badges do not replace access control procedures, but they help make authorization status visible at a glance.
Best used for: visitor management, controlled area access, employee authorization, contractor identification, facility tours, audits, assessments, maintenance visits, production areas, labs, engineering spaces, and server rooms.
Recommended use: Use purple badges or lanyards to identify CUI-authorized personnel, and red badges or lanyards to identify restricted individuals who should not access CUI without approval or escort.

Meet MP.L2-3.10.1 by placing this sign in RESTRICTED areas/rooms that hold, print, process, or create Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) (32 CFR 2002 and NIST SP-800-171). A great way to assist you in being above reproach in your compliance efforts is to hang a sign that indicates CUI is present.
How to Use CUI Restricted Area Signs
CUI Restricted Area Signs are used to clearly identify rooms, work areas, storage spaces, and controlled environments where Controlled Unclassified Information is held, printed, processed, discussed, stored, or created.
Place these signs at entrances to areas where employees handle CUI, including engineering offices, program rooms, manufacturing work cells, labs, server rooms, IT closets, print/copy areas, document storage rooms, inspection areas, and other spaces where access should be limited to authorized personnel.
For best results, install signs at eye level near the entry point before someone enters the controlled space. Larger 12" x 8" signs work well for doors, hallways, production areas, labs, and larger controlled spaces. Compact 4" x 6" signs are useful for cabinets, smaller rooms, toolboxes, storage containers, workstations, or secondary access points.
CUI Restricted Area Signs should be used as part of a broader physical CUI protection system. These signs help communicate that CUI is present and that access should be limited to authorized personnel, but they should be paired with access control procedures, visitor escorting, employee training, CUI media labels, SF 901 cover sheets, CUI floor tape, and proper storage/destruction practices.
Best used for: controlled areas, CUI rooms, engineering departments, labs, production work cells, server rooms, IT closets, file storage areas, print/copy stations, conference rooms, inspection areas, and CUI storage locations.
Recommended use: Place signs anywhere a person should recognize they are entering or approaching an area where CUI may be present and special handling procedures apply.

The SF 905 - CUI Computer and Digital Media Labels are standardized identification labels designed to mark electronic media and equipment associated with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). These labels are used in support of DFARS and 32 CFR 2002.20 CUI marking requirements to alert handlers, users, and custodians that a device, item, or media contains, stores, processes, displays, or provides access to CUI. The standard size label measures approximately 2.125 inches by 1.25 inches, providing a clear, visible designation.
Available in two quantity options: 500 labels per roll and 100 labels per roll, accommodating different operational needs.
How to Use Generic SF 905 CUI Digital Media Labels
Generic SF 905 CUI Digital Media Labels are used to identify contractor-owned, company-owned, or internally managed devices and media that contain, store, process, display, or provide access to Controlled Unclassified Information.
Unlike SF 902 labels, Generic SF 905 labels do not include the text “U.S. Government Property.” This makes them a practical option for organizations that need to mark company-owned laptops, desktops, monitors, external hard drives, printers, scanners, servers, workstations, storage devices, filing cabinets, and other CUI-related assets without implying government ownership.
Apply these labels in a visible, consistent location on equipment or media associated with CUI. On laptops and desktops, place the label where it can be easily seen during use, transport, or inventory checks. On external hard drives or removable media, place the label directly on the item or on the protective case if space is limited. For printers, scanners, servers, and network equipment, place the label near the control panel, front-facing surface, or another visible area.
Generic SF 905 labels are best used as part of a complete CUI marking system. Pair them with SF 901 CUI Cover Sheets for printed documents, CUI Restricted Area Signs for controlled spaces, CUI Authorized Only Floor Tape for work zones, CUI Visitor Badges for personnel control, and CMMC asset labels for asset classification and scoping.
Best used for: company-owned laptops, desktops, monitors, external hard drives, removable media, printers, scanners, servers, network equipment, workstations, filing cabinets, and storage items associated with CUI.
Recommended use: Use Generic SF 905 labels when you need a visible CUI media/device label but do not want the label to say “U.S. Government Property.”
Unlike the SF 902 label, the SF 905 label does not include the text “U.S. Government Property,” making it suitable for contractor-owned, company-owned, or internally managed devices and media that handle CUI but are not government property.
These labels are suitable for application on laptops, desktop computers, monitors, external hard drives, removable storage devices, CDs, DVDs, printers, servers, workstations, filing cabinets, and other storage media or physical items that contain, display, or provide access to CUI. They may also be used on physical items such as photographs, drawings, films, or other media when clear CUI identification is needed.
The labels are made from durable materials designed to withstand routine handling and normal workplace conditions, helping maintain long-term identification of CUI-related devices and media. Care instructions include applying the label to clean, dry surfaces; removing any protective backing carefully; pressing firmly during application; and avoiding exposure to extreme temperatures, excess moisture, harsh chemicals, or abrasive cleaners. The labels are intended for secure, long-term use on CUI-related assets and media.
Included in each pack are the labels themselves; any additional accessories or mounting options are not included. The labels feature the standard purple CUI color, which may vary slightly due to lighting conditions, material finish, or screen resolution.
Overall, the SF 905 - CUI Computer and Digital Media Labels provide a reliable way to identify and protect CUI on electronic media, contractor-owned devices, company equipment, and other physical items, supporting CUI handling procedures, CMMC preparation, and compliance with government security standards.

Our ITAR Restricted Area Signs deliver practical, auditable support for your compliance program by:
- Establishing clear physical boundaries — Visibly designates restricted work areas, labs, storage zones, or production floors where ITAR-controlled materials are present.
- Deterring unauthorized access — Serves as legal notice to employees, contractors, and visitors that entry is limited to authorized U.S. persons only.
- Reducing risk of inadvertent violations — Reinforces training and raises continuous awareness, helping prevent accidental exposure of export-controlled information.
- Supporting overall security posture — Complements access control systems, visitor management protocols, and CUI handling procedures for stronger audit readiness.
The 4"x 6" Compact Option
The 4"x6" Compact ITAR Restricted Area Signs- 10pk are designed to provide a space-efficient and compliant signage solution for restricted areas requiring ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) notification. How to Use No CUI in Trash or Recycling Signs
No CUI in Trash or Recycling Signs are used to remind employees, visitors, contractors, and cleaning staff that Controlled Unclassified Information should never be placed in normal trash cans, recycling bins, desk-side wastebaskets, or unsecured disposal areas.
Place these signs near trash cans, recycling bins, print/copy areas, document review stations, engineering workspaces, production areas, file rooms, conference rooms, and any location where employees may handle or dispose of printed CUI documents.
These signs are especially useful in offices, manufacturing floors, labs, quality departments, shipping areas, program offices, and shared workspaces where CUI documents may be printed, reviewed, staged, marked up, or discarded.
For best results, place the sign directly above or near trash and recycling containers so employees see the reminder before disposing of paper. These signs should be paired with clearly marked CUI Authorized Destruction Containers so employees know where CUI documents should go instead.
No CUI in Trash or Recycling Signs do not replace your organization’s CUI destruction procedures. Instead, they help reinforce those procedures at the point where mistakes are most likely to happen.
Best used for: trash areas, recycling stations, print rooms, copy rooms, desks, conference rooms, document control areas, engineering offices, production floors, inspection areas, file rooms, and shared workspaces.
Recommended use: Place near normal trash and recycling containers, especially in areas where CUI is printed, reviewed, stored, discussed, or handled.
How it Helps: Affixing a sign that says "No CUI in Trash or Recycling" to trash cans in a work environment helps prevent the accidental or intentional disposal of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) in unsecured bins. This is critical for:
- Security Compliance: CUI must be protected under federal regulations (e.g., NARA, NIST SP 800-171) and cannot be discarded without proper destruction methods, such as shredding or pulverization, to ensure it remains unreadable and irrecoverable.
- Risk Mitigation: Improper disposal could lead to unauthorized access, data breaches, or legal penalties for the organization.
- Awareness: The sign serves as a constant reminder to employees of their responsibility to dispose of CUI properly and use designated secure destruction containers.
- Habit Formation: Reinforces a culture of security by encouraging proper handling and disposal practices.
This practice is especially important in environments handling sensitive data, ensuring compliance and protecting against potential threats.
